Is there a link between diabetes and cognitive decline

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases conducts an excellent blog called the “Diabetes Discoveries and Practice Blog”. 

In July 2021, the Blog posted an excellent interview style article with Dr Jose Luschinger, where he discusses the impacts of diabetes on cognition.

He states that … “People with diabetes are at risk of developing cognitive impairment, which presents challenges for following treatment”.

He also made the observation that … “Older adults with diabetes have higher incidences of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and vascular dementia than those with normal glucose tolerance”.
