Monitoring neuropathy in the diabetic foot – assessment conducted by the non-health professional
Ipswich Touch Test : Dr G Rayman from the UK has devised a simple test that can be used to assess for the presence of neuropathy in the feet of a person who has diabetes. The beauty of this method is that it does not require the use of a monofilament, it can be conducted by non-health professionals and individuals with diabetes can have their feet frequently monitored in their own home. It is important to state that this activity does not replace a regular foot review by a health care professional and certainly any abnormalities detected should be brought to a professional’s attention as a matter of priority.
